In Her Words

Here is an assignment that Danelle turned in last year (8th grade).

She read it to me this morning and I thought that I'd share it here.

I Have a Dream by Danelle Hubert

Martin Luther King Jr.'s words in ( )

I have a dream that one day this nation will: (will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.")

.....be one with itself and its neighbors. That it will have respect and love not only for those who walk this earth but for those who cannot as well.

I have a dream that one day: (on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.)

.....humans will be able to accept their fellow beings with grace and respect, and not judge them by their skin colour, appearance, situation, skill, or education.

I have a dream that one day: (even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.)

.....every child will be taught that everyone is beautiful and deserves love and positive attention. That just because that person may not have all the things you do, it does not make them bad. 

I have a dream that: (my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.)

.....the people will unite together to build a stronger bond of friendship and respect than ever before. That it will not be based on treaties, or agreements but based on a want for a better future for ourselves and generations to come.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day: (the state of Alabama, whose governor's lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.)

.....we may stop criticizing others for their status, weight, health, or personality. That one day we will realize that all of us are human and as such we have feelings that can be harmed.

 I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day: (every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.)

.....we might regret past offense and make right what was wrongly said to another. That respect love and understanding may rule our judgment, not envy, hate, or selfish desire.

 This is our hope... With this faith we will be able to: (hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.)

.....change the world for better. Make every child feel as if they're worth the world. Every child is a  treasure waiting to be discovered and cherished.
 

This will be the day when: (all of God's children will be able to sing with a new meaning, My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring.)

.....we will be recognized as human beings. When we can do all this, we will be worthy to rule the  world given unto us. We will understand why all things are and appreciate them as such.
