Gooseberry Falls. Or not.

So here we are Wednesday morning airing out the tent and sleeping bags.

Here is Madi....still cheerful after a stormy night camping.

And my sweet Kami Zo wasn't bothered by a little rain either.

I wasn't crazy enough to try to get pictures of the rest of the crew until later on that morning

back at the headwaters.

We were fortunate enough to have someone take our photo all together as a family

every day of our vacation. Here we are with Kamiryn driving the imaginary bus.

The girls with the statue of the "turtle lady" at the headwaters. The girls insisted that she likes having her picture taken and that we couldn't pass her by.

So here we are on our way to Gooseberry Falls. After being assured by a park ranger in Itasca that there would not be any more rain for the remainder of our trip. We had to stop about an hour outside of Duluth and put the bag with our sleeping bags in the van with the girls. That was fun. It was dark, dreary and starting to sprinkle.

Until we got to Duluth.

Then it was dark, dreary and POURING.

At 5:30pm.

Derek thought maybe we'd drive out of it. So we went up past Two Harbors to our campsite at Gooseberry Falls campground. Where it was dark. And wet.

Guess where we didn't stay the night. Instead we were in this lovely motel about 6 miles back.

Derek exercised his right to make an executive decision. And he was ever so pleased with himself when the lightening and thunder started about 20 minutes later. Good call Derek.

And so on Thursday afternoon we actually made it to the falls.
